Bacaan hari ini mengajak kita memahami bahwa mengikuti Tuhan bukan sekadar menjalankan kewajiban agama, tetapi membiarkan hidup kita menjadi terang, sehingga orang lain dapat melihat kasih Tuhan melalui sikap dan tindakan kita. Dalam Injil, Yesus berkata, “Hendaklah kamu murah hati, sama seperti Bapamu adalah murah hati.” (Luk. 6:36). Sementara itu, dalam Kitab Daniel, kita menyaksikan doa pertobatan yang begitu rendah hati: “Kami telah berdosa.”
Dari dua bacaan ini, kita belajar dua hal yang saling berkaitan: hati yang bertobat dan hati yang berbelas kasih.
Pertama, hati yang bertobat. Daniel tidak menyalahkan orang lain atas kehancuran bangsanya. Ia tidak berkata, “Mereka telah berdosa,” tetapi “Kami telah berdosa.” Ia memasukkan dirinya dalam pengakuan itu. Inilah kerendahan hati sejati. Sebelum menjadi terang bagi orang lain, kita harus berani mengakui kegelapan dalam diri sendiri.
Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, ini tidak mudah. Saat terjadi konflik dalam keluarga atau komunitas, kita cenderung menunjuk kesalahan orang lain. Jarang kita berkata, “Mungkin aku juga salah.” Namun, justru di situlah awal pertobatan. Hati yang mau mengakui kesalahan akan menjadi lembut. Sebaliknya, hati yang selalu membela diri akan menjadi keras dan mudah menghakimi.
Kedua, hati yang berbelas kasih. Yesus melanjutkan ajaran-Nya dengan berkata, “Janganlah menghakimi… Ampunilah dan kamu akan diampuni… Berilah dan kamu akan diberi.” Ukuran yang kita pakai untuk orang lain akan dipakai juga untuk kita.
Betapa mudahnya kita menilai orang dari satu kesalahan. Kita melihat kegagalannya, lalu melupakan kebaikannya. Namun, Tuhan tidak memperlakukan kita demikian. Ia memberi kesempatan baru. Ia mengampuni berkali-kali. Kita hidup setiap hari dari belas kasih-Nya: dalam doa, dalam Sakramen Tobat, dalam kesempatan untuk memulai kembali.
Karena itu, jika kita sendiri hidup dari pengampunan Tuhan, bagaimana mungkin kita menahan pengampunan bagi sesama? Kita ingin dimengerti ketika jatuh, tetapi sering enggan mengerti ketika orang lain jatuh. Di sinilah Injil menantang kita.
Menjadi terang berarti menghadirkan belas kasih secara konkret. Misalnya, memilih untuk tidak membalas kata-kata kasar dengan kemarahan. Atau memberi kesempatan kedua kepada orang yang pernah mengecewakan kita. Atau mendoakan mereka yang menyakiti kita. Belas kasih tidak berarti membenarkan kesalahan, tetapi memberi ruang bagi pertobatan dan pemulihan.
Akhirnya, Daniel mengajarkan kita untuk merendahkan diri di hadapan Tuhan, dan Yesus mengajarkan kita untuk bermurah hati terhadap sesama. Jika pertobatan membuat hati kita lembut, maka belas kasih membuat hidup kita bercahaya.
Semoga melalui kata-kata, sikap, dan keputusan kita, orang lain dapat merasakan kasih Tuhan yang murah hati dan tak terbatas. Amin.
