Iman bukan pertama-tama soal melakukan banyak hal besar, melainkan soal mendengar Allah dan menaatinya. Rasul Paulus mengingatkan bahwa iman timbul dari pendengaran akan firman (Rm. 10:17), dan keselamatan adalah anugerah yang diterima melalui iman (Ef. 2:8). Dalam terang itu, sosok Santo Yusuf tampil sebagai teladan yang sangat konkret: ia bukan pengkhotbah, bukan nabi besar yang bersuara lantang, tetapi seorang yang diam, namun mendengar dengan tajam dan bertindak dengan setia.
Injil hari ini memperlihatkan hal itu dengan sangat jelas: “Ketika Yusuf bangun, ia melakukan seperti yang diperintahkan malaikat Tuhan kepadanya” (Mat. 1:24). Tidak ada perdebatan, tidak ada penundaan. Yusuf menerima pesan yang melampaui logika manusia bahwa Maria mengandung dari Roh Kudus. Namun, ia memilih percaya. Ketaatan Yusuf bukan hanya sekali, melainkan berulang kali: ia bangun dan pergi ke Mesir untuk menyelamatkan Anak itu (Mat. 2:13-14), ia kembali ke Israel ketika diperintahkan (Mat. 2:19-20), dan ia menetap di Galilea sesuai peringatan ilahi (Mat. 2:22). Hidupnya menjadi rangkaian respons iman terhadap suara Allah.
Kesetiaan seperti ini mengingatkan kita pada Raja Daud dalam bacaan pertama. Kepada Daud, Allah menjanjikan keturunan dan kerajaan yang kokoh untuk selama-lamanya (2Sam. 7:16). Janji itu bukan hanya tentang kekuasaan, tetapi tentang rencana keselamatan Allah yang digenapi dalam Yesus Kristus, yang juga dipercayakan dalam pemeliharaan Yusuf. Dengan demikian, Yusuf bukan hanya seorang ayah asuh, tetapi juga bagian dari penggenapan janji Allah dalam sejarah keselamatan.
Apa yang membuat Yusuf mampu hidup demikian? Ia memiliki “pendengaran rohani” yang peka. Ia terbiasa membuka diri pada Allah, sehingga ketika Tuhan berbicara, bahkan dalam mimpi, ia siap mendengar dan bertindak. Ini menjadi undangan bagi kita: iman bukan hanya soal mengetahui ajaran, tetapi melatih hati untuk mendengar Tuhan di tengah hiruk-pikuk kehidupan.
Bagaimana kita dapat meneladaninya secara konkret?
Pertama, meluangkan waktu untuk mendengar firman Tuhan setiap hari. Tanpa firman, iman menjadi kering. Kedua, belajar hening. Dalam keheningan, suara Tuhan menjadi lebih jelas dibandingkan kebisingan dunia. Ketiga, hidup sederhana, agar hati tidak dipenuhi oleh terlalu banyak hal yang justru menutup ruang bagi Tuhan. Keempat, berani taat, bahkan ketika kita belum memahami sepenuhnya rencana-Nya. Iman sejati seringkali melangkah lebih dulu sebelum mengerti.
Yesus sendiri berkata: “Siapa mempunyai telinga untuk mendengar, hendaklah ia mendengar!” (Mrk. 4:9). Seruan ini bukan sekadar ajakan pasif, tetapi panggilan untuk hidup dalam kepekaan rohani. Dunia sering mengukur kebesaran dari popularitas dan pencapaian, tetapi di hadapan Tuhan, kebesaran diukur dari kesetiaan.
Santo Yusuf mengajarkan bahwa hidup yang berkenan kepada Allah adalah hidup yang sederhana namun taat. Ia tidak banyak berbicara, tetapi seluruh hidupnya adalah jawaban “ya” kepada kehendak Tuhan. Apakah kita sungguh mendengar Tuhan dan berani melakukan apa yang Ia kehendaki?

Kepekaan rohani St Yusuf pantas kita teladani agar dalam diam kita bs hening mendengar dan tahu kehendak Tuhan. Terkadang kita tahu apa kehendak Tuhan, ah sulit, ah bukan itu yang kumau. Tapi kalau kita mau menjadi umat yang mau membalas cinta Tuhan dan hendak menyenangkanNya tentu mau keluar zona nyaman, ambil keputusan. Jalani apa kehendakNya, walau sulit, walau berat, walau direndahkan di mata dunia. Karena Tuhan akan sll menyertai kita orang beriman yang patuh pada kehendakNya… Tak sulit kalau mau, pasti bisa kalau kita mau mengosongkan diri hanya buat kemuliaan Tuhan…
