Rani sengaja tidak sarapan pagi itu karena sedang “berpuasa”. Ia merasa cukup rohani: menahan lapar, menahan diri, menahan banyak hal. Di lampu merah, dia melihat seorang ibu memeluk anak kecil, wajahnya lelah, dengan suara pelan meminta makan. Rani menunduk, pura-pura sibuk menatap ponsel. Ketika lampu hijau menyala, ia melaju. Namun, ada yang mengganjal selama perjalanan: puasanya berjalan, tetapi hatinya tawar. Pada siang hari, ia kembali ke tempat itu, membeli dua porsi makanan, dan tanpa banyak komentar menyerahkannya. Dengan senyuman sederhana yang diberikan ibu itu, Rani merasa ada “rasa” yang kembali ke dalam dirinya. Ia mulai menyadari bahwa garam tidak untuk dipajang, tetapi untuk larut dan bekerja.
Yesus berkata, “Kamu adalah garam dunia” (Mat 5:13). Garam itu kecil dan tidak mencolok; ia tidak menuntut dilihat. Saat dilarutkan, ia seperti “hilang,” justru di situlah ia bekerja: memberi rasa dan menjaga agar yang baik tidak cepat rusak.Begitu juga iman. Murid Kristus bukan dipanggil menjadi pajangan Rohani.
Meskipun mereka tampak baik dari luar, mereka tidak mengubah apa pun yang mereka miliki, di dalam dan di sekitar mereka. Garam yang tawar adalah iman yang kehilangan daya ubah: banyak simbol, sedikit pengaruh; banyak kata, sedikit tindakan.
Garam yang benar hadir dalam keseharian: memilih sabar ketika mudah marah, jujur ketika ada peluang curang, dan berbelas kasih ketika logika hanya menghitung untung-rugi. Ia terasa di rumah, di kantor, di jalan, bahkan di grup chat, ketika kita menahan diri dari menyakiti dan memilih kata yang menguatkan. Di masa kini, garam sering menjadi tawar saat iman berhenti di layar: cepat mengetik “amin,” cepat membagikan kutipan rohani, tetapi lambat mengangkat beban orang di sekitar. Jika iman hanya berhenti di tampilan, dunia tetap hambar dan luka manusia dibiarkan terbuka.
Padahal yang terluka sering tidak butuh kalimat panjang, melainkan satu tindakan kecil yang membuat mereka tidak merasa sendirian: mendengar sungguh, hadir sebentar, menolong diam-diam, berlaku adil, dan berbagi dari yang kita punya. Santo Yohanes Paulus II pernah berkata, “Selain belas kasih Allah, tak ada lagi sumber harapan lain bagi manusia.” Belas kasih bukan tambahan dari iman, melainkan jantungnya. Ketika belas kasih itu mengalir melalui tindakan kita, harapan Allah menjadi nyata bagi dunia.
Yesaya 58 menegaskan apa arti “garam yang berfungsi.” Tuhan tidak puas dengan ibadah yang hanya menahan lapar, tetapi menutup mata terhadap sesama. Puasa sejati, kata Tuhan, adalah “membagi-bagikan makananmu kepada orang yang lapar… menerima… orang miskin” (Yes 58:7). Dan puncaknya: “apabila engkau menyerahkan kepada orang lapar apa yang kauinginkan sendiri… maka terangmu akan terbit dalam gelap” (Yes 58:10). Garam dan terang bukan slogan, melainkan tindakan konkret. Mulailah dari: sisihkan satu porsi makan atau sebagian uang jajan untuk yang membutuhkan di sekitar kita. Berhenti ikut menyebar gosip, dan pilih menguatkan mereka yang sedang ditekan: di rumah, di kantor, maupun di media sosial.
Bahan refleksi: Sudahkah aku dipanggil untuk “larut”? Dengan menyisihkan makanan, waktu, atau perhatian, atau mengunjungi yang kesepian, dengan berhenti memfitnah dan menunjuk-nunjuk, dengan memaafkan, menolong diam-diam tanpa menunggu pujian. Garam dunia bukan pajangan, ia bekerja lewat kasih nyata, supaya dunia yang hambar kembali punya harapan, dan Bapa dimuliakan.
