Namun, padang gurun tidak selalu berarti penderitaan. Kadang-kadang padang gurun adalah masa sunyi yang sengaja kita pilih untuk berdoa dan mendekat kepada Tuhan. Kadang pula padang gurun merupakan masa pembentukan, ketika Allah sedang mempersiapkan kita untuk tugas yang lebih besar. Seperti Yohanes, kita pun sering kali dibentuk dalam kesunyian sebelum diutus untuk melayani.
Kabar baiknya, Allah tidak hanya memanggil Yohanes. Allah juga memilih dan memanggil setiap orang sejak dalam rahim untuk tujuan dan misi tertentu. Karena itu, sebagai pewarta Sabda, kita dipanggil untuk memiliki iman yang hidup dan berbuah dalam karya nyata (KGK 898). Kita dipanggil untuk bersaksi tentang Tuhan melalui cara hidup sehari-hari, bukan melalui kata-kata besar, melainkan melalui tindakan kasih yang sederhana. Kita membawa orang kepada Kristus melalui senyuman yang tulus, telinga yang mau mendengar, tangan yang siap menolong, dan makanan yang rela dibagikan. Kita mengajak orang bertobat bukan dengan menghakimi, tetapi dengan menjadi teladan hidup yang dipenuhi kasih. Kita juga mempersiapkan jalan bagi Tuhan dengan membantu menghapus kesepian, keputusasaan, dan ketakutan dalam hidup sesama.
